Helpful Tidbits About the Counseling Process

I'm New to Charis

How do I set an appointment with a therapist?

Simply contact our office, ask for Alexis Megahee, and request an appointment. Once an appointment has been set we ask that you complete the new client paperwork packet which can be found here.

You can either e-mail the completed forms to info@chariscounselingcenter.com before your scheduled session or bring the completed forms with you to the office. If you do not have a chance to complete the forms we ask that you come in 15-minutes prior to your appointment and our office will provide you with a copy to fill out. Please note that we need a set of paperwork completed for each person participating in therapy.

How long does therapy last?

Each individual session usually lasts about 50 minutes, although a longer or shorter session may be recommended or requested by the client. For a longer session, there will be an additional fee as discussed by therapist. Frequency of sessions (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc.) will be decided by you and your therapist. The length of therapy varies with each client depending on his/her needs and therapeutic goals.

Can I schedule phone sessions?

Yes. While our face-to-face meetings are generally preferred, it is understood that circumstances sometimes prohibit this. Phone sessions are charged at the same rate as in-office sessions. See our FAQs page for details.

What can I expect?

What can I expect from the therapeutic process?

Therapy is a relationship that works in part because of clearly defined rights and responsibilities held by each person. The therapeutic framework helps to create a safe environment that enables clients to take risks and the support to become empowered to change. As a client in psychotherapy, you have certain rights that are important for you to know about because this is your therapy, whose goal is your well-being. There are also certain limitations to those rights for which you should be made aware. Therapists have corresponding responsibilities to you as well.

Do I have any responsibilities as a client?

You are responsible for coming to your session on time and at the time we have scheduled. Sessions last for 50 minutes. If you are late, we will end on time and not run over into the next person's session. If you miss a session without canceling, or cancel with less than twenty-four business hours notice, you must pay for that session at or before our next regularly scheduled meeting. The only exception to this rule is if you would  if you have a personal emergency such as sickness in the family. You are responsible for paying for your session weekly. Alexis' fee for a session of 50 minutes is $90.00. We do not accept insurance. I am not willing to have outstanding accounts and I cannot accept barter for therapy. If you eventually refuse to pay your debt, I reserve the right to give your name and the amount due to a collection agency.
